Lake Lawn, Delavan Lake Wisconsin

Lake Lawn Closing Delavan Lake WI

It’s a sad time for Delavan as Lake Lawn Lodge has closed its doors December 2010.   An end to a 132 year history on beautiful Delavan Lake.      Many guests have made Lake Lawn part of their family memories.   A beautiful 268 acre resort, anxiously awaits a new owner.  I worked in the coffee shop when I was in high school, it was a great opportunity and I enjoyed meeting all the guests that vacationed here.  I drove around the property this past week,   the empty feeling of a ghost town,  no Christmas lights, empty parking lots, snow covered streets.   The only signs of life are the full time round the clock security personnel.      My thoughts go out to the employees that are now jobless, that stuck with the resort to the very last day.   Once again, this grand resort will reopen, and it will be a huge day to celebrate in both Delavan and Walworth County,  Lake Lawn will have a comeback and it will be bigger and better than ever!

Delavan Lake, winter 2009 view of Lake Lawn golf course.

Delavan Lake Activities

Well summer has come to an end, and it is getting cold.  Ugg.   I was telling a friend of mine in Texas the things we have to do here in the Delavan Lake area to get ready for winter.  He was shocked!   He said "you mean you have to physically take the piers out of the water every fall?"   I responded yes,  but that is not all,  the boats come out of the water too!  We also have to drain our swimming pools,  and winterize the "water toys".  I actually learned this year how to winterize my own wave runner!   But it doesn't end there,  any plants you want to save need to be brought in the house,  anything in the garage that could freeze and break has to also be brought into a warmer location.   Soon Delavan and Lake Geneva will be frozen over, enough that you can drive cars on the lake, and then the ice fishing starts!  That is a whole different topic!
